This display is something to rival Londons New Years Eve show. Independence Day isn’t just a film about aliens? What?! You thought that the bonfire firework display at your local park was a show. Everyone is running around waving flags and singing Katy Perry. You didn’t realise how patriotic everyone is until today. There are stars and stripes literately everywhere. There is none stop chanting of “USA, USA, USA!”. Independence Day is not just a film about Aliens on the 4th of July You never thought you’d feel so patriotic for a country you’re not from but here you are belting out the National Anthem like you didn’t just learn the words two weeks ago. Red, white and blue are everywhere and you feel like you are in a fresh tube of Colgate toothpaste. It’s time to celebrate the land of the free and the home of the brave and boy are you in for a treat. It’s your first 4th of July in America and every American’s favourite day. Here are 6 emotions you’ll feel on your first 4th of July! Don’t let nerves get the better of you! If you believe you’ll have the best summer ever, you’ll have the best summer ever! Meeting lots of new people and learning the camp songs and traditions all at once can be exhausting, but it’s worth throwing yourself into. Orientation Week – sometimes called Camp Counselor Week – at camp was pretty intense. I even found out that people were on the same train as me! Enjoy Orientation As soon as I land, I let people know in the group that I’m on my way. Pretty much as soon as you’re hired, you’ll probably be invited to join the camp’s Staff Facebook Group. Getting involved in camp life early is an important piece of advice for first time Camp Counselors. The early planning means I can sit back and enjoy the ride! Get Involved Early My camp organizes transport from Grand Central, so I have their number saved. When I travel, I have all the bus times from the airport in Newark to Grand Central screenshotted on my phone and I have notes too. Landing in Americaīefore you fly, your route from the airport to camp will be fully planned out. Yes, it means getting up super early and hanging around the airport, but it’s better than being late. I make sure I’m really early for my flight. I make sure my passport and all the documents I need are ready in my bum bag and even have copies in my carry on.
